Information about the internationally acclaimed, universally adored webcomic deathchord
For maximum effect, this page is overtly self-aggrandizing and pretentious.
In a nutshell:
It's a comic about the nonsensical, very much improbable experiences and - should you wish to term them so - adventures of a group of friends and enemies that live witin the town of Alpenglow.
Out of a nutshell:
Overall plot and timeline
There are none, other than trying to make people laugh (the jury's out) and tell ever more increasingly bizarre escapades. There are no higher levels or moral lessons to each individual story. although you could possibly gain knowledge as to actions to not take in the real world if you ever happen upon similar circumstances shown in the comic. I pray for your soul should that ever happen. Also it stands as a way for me to improve both writing and art.
The timeline is generally going forward, mostly without transitions between pages. Mostly to keep it moving and not take eight hundred pages for the characters to find their keys.
Don't take this thing seriously, because I sure don't.
The Name
There is no reason for the name. Something short, snappy and cool sounding, also a title that would look cool written in a death metal logo way. It won't have any relevance to anything contained within, unless I have some sort of mental breakdown and decide to make the comic a "chosen one" cliché about one of the main characters searching for the mystical musical weapon known to be able to destroy all and sundry, ubiquitously called the "Deathchord".
Actually, that sounds pretty good...
Location and setting of the comic
Deathchord (referred to as DC from herein) is set in an English city called Alpenglow, which doesn't exist (Alpenglow means "reddish glow", I think). It's not very defined yet, but it'll be mostly like most of the English towns I've been to: run down and badly designed. Luckily I'm very bad at design, so it should look completely authentic.
Continuity, character development and the past
Other than the odd reference to things gone by or previous tropes, there is no real continuity. Each story is self-contained and mostly stays that way, although a character might refer to previous situations only in vague passing.. As far as character development goes, it will be mostly minimal, and never serious or dramatic. Things are too serious as is. And the past is just what it is.
Most people in the real world don't unfurl their life story within five minutes of meeting someone for the first time, and it's the same in my comic.
Characters
This is a area where I suffer, as I'm not all too good at giving characters unique character traits, and even worse at describing those traits. I don't want to make them too one dimensional so I try not to limit them to one specific trait, but I'm slowly getting better at making them stand apart. I would like you to get a feeling for how they mentally tick through the dialogue but due to me not being good enough at that yet and also some people would prefer some hints regardless, here are some minimal personality profiles of the main characters:
Drake Horotv: Used to work with Priqué and Taflyn, which is where he became friends with them. He runs marathons a lot. Takes mostly things quite literally, and comes off quite dim which is not true: he just seems to totally misunderstand sarcasm, irony, or any other kind of language based vehicle.
Priqué Distreza: Childhood friend of Taflyn. The one most likely to come up with crazy ideas for making money or chaos, mostly the latter. Speaks mostly in disjointed comments and observations which are not decipherable by many others. Spends half of his time trying to get a job, and the other half getting fired from them. Not very serious.
Taflyn Laestrai: Childhood friend of Priqué. She shares a similar sense of humour and logic with Priqué, and often talks in nonsense whenever he starts to. Takes the pee out of people who says things wrong or incorrect. Considers herself "one of the guys" even though the other guys do not have a boyfriend. Doesn't understand the term "girl power".
Err: A friend of Priqué and casual acquantance of the others. Misanthropic to a high degree and generally not prepared for social interaction. Prefers to not leave the house, and when he does he avoids large gatherings of people as much as possible.
Now tuck in to the archives!
